Amerock has long been one or more American business the belief that brought new and time-honored design and you should shoppers and kitchen and bath designers. They market distinct and cutting benefit styles all the time are created in conjunction with mindful treatment and you’ll top quality production. such a approach and you may good quality design and manufacturing manufacturers their designs consistent top performers.

How has become a small business like such type of born? as part of classic, American Dream style…

Two immigrant brothers from Sweden, Reuben and Gedor Aldeen, held responsible positions included in technologies and manufacturing in all of their National Lock company included in Rockford, Illinois. throughout the 1928, these guys still left National Lock and you will probably commence their very own company the fact that focused entirely atop production cabinet hardware. right up until then, virtually all cupboard hardware was realistic and simple. each of the Aldeens thought the fact while in lots of productive 1920s, a market existed factored in stylish, coordinating hardware types while in home cabinetry.

The brothers set right a manufacturing operation within one of the entire first skyscrapers during all of their city of Rockford. Shortly after all of the factory opened, the different prosperity of all of their 1920s gave way and that you will the different awesome Depression of each of the 1930s. Despite all of the circumstances during the many country and in the entire city of Rockford sense most of the outcomes of every one of the downtown within each of the economy, the entire Aldeens’ company maintained lots of accomplishment almost all experienced from all of the commence. the entire American cupboard Hardware company bypassed most of the struggles that experts claim so plenty of companies, manufacturers, and workers faced at just how time. Despite the different simple fact that experts claim new housing begins are actually barely existed during at the fact that time, every one of the American cupboard Hardware organization rolled out new lines of stylish, matched ensembles of cabinet hardware, hinges, pulls and catches the point that happen to be nicely acquired by wholesale cupboard manufacturers.

The prevalent styles within the cabinet hardware provided that happen to be soon sought immediately after by shops who desired and you may market them throughout the sale straight and you will definitely buyers. A 2nd market niche developed, and lots of American cupboard Hardware organization supplied their designs and you may both makes and shoppers. in conjunction with this type of success came growth. all the Aldeen brothers remained at most of the helm, and the different American cupboard Hardware company expanded their manufacturing operations. all of their organization transformed its name and discover Amerock during 1940 and continued its productive operations and even expanded while in lots of war years.

When the entire war was over, veterans benefitted from Amerock’s presence in the Rockford. By the entire end of all of their 1940s, a lot of of every one of the employees at the entire Amerock production location experienced fought for the many war, and every one of the enterprise hired lots of disabled veterans. Amerock’s sales doubled within the the many 1940s, and most of the post-war many years gave this type of well-established enterprise years of style growth and production expansion. each of the construction boom of all of the 1950s led lots of enterprise and you will probably grow to be a supplier included in three key areas: appliance, cabinets, and windows. These versions maintained their consistent high quality and remained a fundamental by which others products were measured. factored in 1954, an additional brother, Norris Aldeen, rose and that you will prominence included in the company, and during 1965, became president of Amerock.

In lots of 1960s and 70s, Amerock versions maintained their excellent top quality and strongly penetrated the different market. all of the enterprise continued and you will grow its manufacturing operations, expanded manufacturing into all of the Canadian market, and merged beside toolmaker Stanley performs. the economic recession in the 1980s forced Amerock and you may reconsider enterprise as almost all had been handled during its earlier, more effective many years. the poor housing business forced most of the enterprise and discover feel streamlining its operations and putting cost-saving actions into area. all of their market while in their versions became absolutely are a competitive.

But in the all the it’s not that experts claim followed, all of the business rose and you’ll lots of challenges of lots of industry. additionally, there are continued and you will probably create sophisticated designs and consistently greater its manufacturing procedures. Strategic alliances enabled the different small business to continue to be a leader for most of the business during cupboard hardware. Amerock cupboard hardware remains a 1st supplier of kitchen area and bath hardware and you will then cabinet brands and and you’ll clients in home advancement centers while in most of the country.

The powerful u-shape technique has to be extremely versatile and in the more or less all cases sets the entire workstation together with each of three walls. all of the wonderful products about this type of manner are good storage room and countertop area together with three sides which draw total advantage of efficiency. even though this sort of is not each of the highly greatest strategy in amusing and accommodating several at home cooks. Congested zones for all of their home will certainly occur! one other players in the factor and that you will feel about is actually you do would like all of their fundamental 8×8 foot area. something less may well not give the many bare smallest 4 foot complete the task area that is certainly advised included in most of the middle of the area. during a substantial kitchen, prepared a single workstation along side a freestanding tropical isle during maximum effectiveness

The L-shape approach enables even though workstations atop a single wall and the 3rd upon no less than one adjacent wall. such a design is without question very much much better as to room in opposition to the many U-shape procedure specially on condition that each of the 1st workstations are found near ?n opposition to the entire bend as well as each of the L. each of the L-shaped approach has been at any time not perfect in the smaller kitchen locations and that you’ll have and you may permit adequate open countertop space in among all of their general health significant workstations which share exactly all of their identical wall. such a should be at smallest 4 feet. more closely point and discover feel has become all of the prepared all the way of every one of the workstations. lots of function must flow from your fridge ?n opposition to all the sink then versus every one of the cook top and then serving area. A correct eating nook could very well be the area definitely opposite all of their bend over every one of the L.

The center island approach happens to be a nicely identified design and style. collectively contains a freestanding workstation operating all at once along with a sink or perhaps stove. such type of would be a wonderful manner within the significant kitchen places by which every one of the function triangle surpasses every one of the twenty-six feet guideline. tropical isle designs always are not nicely appropriate during cooking area areas in which although workstations have and you will be prepared in addition to opposite walls. each of the isle is going to be a practical region included in just how fancy specialist counter like a butchers block or maybe granite. A numerous notion is a rolling tropical isle which collectively action outside and that you will your deck or patio presenting notice entertaining family and friends. without notice one particular end upon all the isle has long been attached and you should every one of the finish of cabinets, jointly is going to be identified as a peninsula. this sort of peninsula produced area supplies the other percentage of of most of the versatility of your own island yet they can be will not desire the intricate process of the room. very same and you’ll islands, all of the peninsula procedure gives all of their make a workstation music a out the way and you will a bit of an rest of the space like your family room or eating place instead of just looking at a wall. immediately after meals preparing, most of the peninsula just about all be taken as a serving buffet or perhaps bar.

The single wall process is often uncovered during more compact houses, family members holiday houses and moreover condos. this type of certain flooring plan is at any time 1 of all of the many area conserving although is without question each of the extremely least active within the the fact make. typically there exists a doorway at both ends that makes it possible for a lot of during visitors. such a will likely generate a quantity of difficulties and additionally aggravation throughout the the point that prepare. one wall home locations are absolutely are a valuable so long as most of the sink has long been integrated in the all of their middle near the entire fridge and the stove. as long as you have obtained the room, let in four ft of countertop area atop each sides of your sink.

WASHINGTON – House Democrats are moving forward on first lady Michelle Obama’s vision for healthier school lunches, propelling legislation that calls for tougher standards governing food in school and more meals for hungry children.

The bill approved by the House Education and Labor Committee Thursday would allow the Agriculture Department to create new standards for all food in schools, including vending machine items. The legislation would spend about $8 billion more over 10 years on nutrition programs.

In a statement, Mrs. Obama said the bill would both combat hunger and help curtail childhood obesity.

It is true that outsourcing of student lunch has increased the fat in student lunch by 30% or greater. The outsourcing was done to save money. Unfortunately, districts still have to pay kitchen staff. So, if you still have to have kitchen staff, it makes sense to cook the food from scratch. When I was in school, we had food that was prepared fresh and on site.

I believe that Our First Lady wants to see obesity among children reduced. I agree with her on that point. Perhaps all parents should have to pay $100 per month to attend public schools. If we do that then we would be supplementing programs like fresh cooked food.

Parents must get their kids from in front of the television and the video games. It is not the governments initial responsibility to take care of things like this. Unfortunately, if they do nothing-many of young obese kids grow up to be obese adults. Next thing you know, people want to apply for disability because they can not walk or stand. We need to be responsible for ourselves and then the government would not feel compelled to come up with solutions for problems that greed has gotten us into.

If you have great suggestions, you should write into the whitehouse.gov site and share your suggestions. Unlike any other presidential camp, this one is highly responsive.

For those of you who have not tried writing in and sharing something positive and useful via the site, stop complaining and share your positive (non-cynical or biased) perspective and resolves.

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Call it vacation Bible school, Glenn Beck-style.

Some three dozen kids ages 10 to 15 are spending five nights this week learning what organizers — some with tea party ties — say they won’t hear in school about the Constitution, the Founding Fathers and the role of faith in the birth of the United States.

“If we’re going to take our country back, we’ve got to remember where we came from — not only as adults, but we need to teach our children,” said Tim Fairfield, one of the teachers, who wore a three-cornered hat at the opening class of Vacation Liberty School. It’s held in a church basement in Georgetown, a city just north of Lexington that is the site of a major Toyota assembly plant.

The curriculum includes lessons like “equal rights, not equal results,” “recognize men don’t create rights — only God,” and “understanding falsehoods of separation of church and state.”

And organizers say the program has drawn interest from people looking to start new chapters in Ohio, Colorado, New York, Florida and other communities in Kentucky.

It’s is an offshoot of the 9/12 Project, inspired by Beck, the conservative commentator, who had no direct role in the planning of the Kentucky school. Beck declined comment.

The project, which seeks to unify Americans around nine values — including honesty, hope and sincerity — and 12 principles, was behind some of the raucous protests at health care forums around the country last summer.

On Monday, the first night of Vacation Liberty School, the basement of Gano Baptist church was converted into a tyrannical kingdom meant to resemble colonial England where students were told they must suppress their laughter, sit apart from their friends and flawlessly recite “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”

Against the urgings of a mock king’s representative, the brave ones ventured through the rugged terrain of a maze of upside-down tables discovered an adjoining room with all the luxuries of the New World. There they could play basketball, toss beanbags and ride a teeter-totter while being showered with confetti as Neil Diamond’s “Coming To America” blared over the speakers.

Some parents showed up early to quiz the organizers about the curriculum. Others said they wouldn’t mind a conservative slant to balance out what they say is a liberal influence in the public school system.

“Other people are trying to put their viewpoints out there, so I don’t see any reason why we can’t put our viewpoints out there,” said John Cravens, the father of two children who attended.

Eric Wilson, head of the Kentucky 9/12 Project, acknowledges he and many others behind the school are strong supporters of the conservative tea party movement, which claims Kentucky Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul as one of its highest-profile members. But he says the curriculum was carefully planned to make sure politics didn’t creep in.

“We may be playing in the same sandbox,” Wilson said. “But in the 9/12 Project, we’re going to tell you where the sand came from while the tea party is telling you what sand to buy.”

Joe Conn, spokesman for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, isn’t so sure. A news release announcing the school referenced the tea party, leading him to believe that if Vacation Liberty School isn’t crossing the line into politics, it’s coming close.

“All Americans want kids to learn about the government and political system,” he said. “It’s something quite different when kids are being indoctrinated in church in one political tradition. That’s quite different from learning objectively and academically about civics.”

He cautions Gano Baptist could risk losing its tax-exempt status if explicit political lessons are being taught in a church setting.

But the Rev. Wayne Lipscomb, the pastor there, says he had no political motivations for allowing the classes to be held without a rental fee. Tickets were distributed online for free.

“I think our kids need to know about the Founding Fathers and they need to understand the connection between God and the Founding Fathers,” he said. “They don’t need to hear the revisionists’ stories of history.”

With such weighty topics swirling, 13-year-old Matthew Porter seemed to get some of them jumbled.

“I didn’t know faith, hope and charity were parts of the Constitution,” he said. “I thought they made it as laws, nothing to do with church.”

Although there was no talk of Democrats or Republicans during Monday’s session, there was an activity geared toward teaching children the dangers of communism.

Given pistols to shoot soap bubbles out of the air, the students quickly learned they could do it far more easily by refilling from their own buckets of water rather than having to share a communal one.

Fairfield told the class the lesson is that while secular communism sounds good in theory, free enterprise works far better in practice.

Later in the week, the economic teachings would extend to lessons on debt and inflation. As more money is printed, the costs of candy and toys at the school’s canteen will skyrocket.

Even in the New World it’s not all fun and games, the children learned. When told it was time to clean up, 10-year-old Taylor Lopez responded with a quip.

“Now we have to clean up America?” she asked.

Evolution is as faith based as any religion. I for one do not want any faith based crap taught in school at any level, to include Evolution or even my own religious beliefs. If we MUST introduce our children to how this world is created then faith based creation is a must, and if that is the case then we need to spend the time teaching the major faith based stories (Evolution, Muslim, Christianity/Judaism) and let our children know that these are all just theories. Religion needs to be taught at home and in the heart, not in the public setting. 4 users liked this comment Please sign in to rate this comment up. Someone needs to rescue our history before the Founding Fathers were foolish believers in God but gay men and women sitting down to tea with the British while being served by Mexican illegals and all of them started arguing over the Supreme Court granting rights to Muslim terrorists to make non-taxed explosives. Read a modern History book. One indicated to the children that Blacks freed themselves during the Civil War. I love to read Sci-fy but in the last five years, many authors have to include gay and lesbian characters to be published.
NEW YORK – Shares of for-profit education companies soared Friday after the Department of Education proposed new rules that should allow most schools in the industry to continue to receive federal loan funds.

A new “gainful employment” rule would cut government aid to schools if too many students default on loans, or earn too little, after graduation.

The proposals are part of an overhaul of regulations of the for-profit education sector, which has come under scrutiny from the Obama administration over rising student loan defaults and questionable recruiting practices. Shares have tumbled for more than a year in anticipation that new rules would reduce federal aid, often the schools’ biggest source of revenue. Most schools, except for those with the highest loan default rates, would still be eligible for the federal student loans, which can make up as much as 90 percent of their revenue, Signal Hill analyst Trace Urdan said.

“(The) new gainful employment proposal is fair and reasonable and tries to catch the bad actors while not hurting the good ones,” Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia wrote in a note to clients.

While the rules may not be as damaging as feared, they will likely limit the sector’s growth rates and make it tough for them to raise tuition, analysts said. With more Congressional hearings planned, the drive to increase oversight of the for-profit sector might not be over, said Credit Suisse analyst Kelly Flynn.

Under the proposals, to remain eligible for aid, schools must show that at least 45 percent of former students are paying off their federal aid dollars, or that graduates have a debt-to-earnings ratio of less than 20 percent of discretionary income or 8 percent of total income.

Schools will be ineligible for federal student loans if less than 35 percent of former students are paying off loans and graduates have a debt-to-earnings ratio above 30 percent of discretionary income and 12 percent of total income.

The Education Department estimates that the new rules would make just 5 percent of for-profit college programs ineligible for aid starting in the 2012-13 academic year, if they make no changes to their programs. It said that 55 percent of all programs would fall into neither the eligible nor ineligible categories, but could face restrictions on enrollment growth and be required to tell potential students about the high debt of its graduates.

Shares of for-profit education companies jumped, with some of the biggest gains among companies such as DeVry Inc. and Apollo Group Inc., which analysts say would be least affected by the new rules.

DeVry was among the biggest gainers in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index Friday, climbing $6.58, or 13 percent, to $58.09 in afternoon trading, while Apollo rose $2.25, or 5 percent, to $48.57. Other companies that analysts said will be least affected by the proposed rules also gained. Capella Education Co. rose $4.35, or 5 percent, to $87.95; Bridgepoint Education Inc. added $1.17, or 7 percent, to $18.39; and American Public Education Inc., climbed $2.06, or 5 percent, to $46.04.

But companies such as ITT Educational Services Inc., Corinthian Colleges Inc., Education Management Corp. and Career Education Corp., that operate career colleges focusing more on 2-year programs or lower-income students may need to make big changes, analysts said. Their shares were mixed. ITT rose 4 cents to $85.22 and Corinthian dipped 19 cents to $10.06. Education Management rose $1.07, or 7 percent, to $16.24 and Career Education gained 57 cents to $25.11.

Shares of other companies in the industry mostly rose. Strayer Education Inc. gained $15.68, or 7 percent, to $234.88, while Lincoln Educational Services added 49 cents to $21.44 and Grand Canyon Education Inc. rose $1.06, or 5 percent, to $22.74.

The Education Department proposed much-anticipated regulations Friday that would cut off federal aid to for-profit college programs if too many of their students default on loans or don’t earn enough after graduation to repay them.

“Some proprietary schools have profited and prospered but their students haven’t, and this is a disservice to students and to taxpayers,” Education Secretary Arne Duncan said in a briefing with reporters. “And it undermines the valuable work, the extraordinarily important work, being done by the for-profit industry as a whole.”

To qualify for federal student aid programs, career college programs must prepare students for “gainful employment.”

The Obama administration, amid intense lobbying from both for-profit college officials and consumer and student advocates, is proposing a complicated formula that would weigh both the debt-to-income ratio of recent graduates and whether all enrolled students repay their loans on time, regardless of whether they finish their studies.

Early reaction was mixed, with a Republican senator and a for-profit college lobbying group panning it and advocates for tougher regulation questioning whether it does enough to protect students and taxpayers.

On Wall Street, shares of several for-profit education companies jumped Friday at the news. DeVry Inc., which is among the companies analysts predicted would be least affected by the proposal, climbed 15 percent and was one of the biggest gainers in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index.

But shares were mixed among companies such as ITT Educational Services Inc., Corinthian Colleges Inc., Education Management Corp. and Career Education Corp. Those companies operate career colleges focusing more on two-year programs or lower-income students and may need to make big changes if the proposal is adopted, analysts said.

Mark Kantrowitz, publisher of the FinAid.org Web site, said the government’s proposal “appears to represent a reasonable compromise that separates the wheat from the chaff without discarding too much wheat.”

For-profit colleges have faced increased scrutiny in recent months for some questionable recruiting tactics, high loan default rates, and low graduation and job placement rates. The government is taking notice because for-profit colleges are bringing in record amounts of federal aid money — $26.5 billion last year, up from $4.6 billion in 2000.

Under the Obama administration proposal, vocational programs would fall into one of three categories:

_Programs fully eligible for aid will either have at least 45 percent of their former students paying down the principal on their federal loans — or their graduates will have a debt-to-earnings ratio of less than 20 percent of discretionary income or 8 percent of total income.

_Ineligible programs will have less than 35 percent of their former students paying down the principal on their federal loans — and their graduates will have a debt-to-earnings ratio above 30 percent of discretionary income and 12 percent of total income.

_Those programs that don’t fit either definition would be restricted — meaning they would be subject to limits on enrollment growth and schools would be required, among other things, to warn of their high debt levels.

Duncan said the department estimates that if schools make no changes, 5 percent of for-profit college programs would be ineligible for aid in 2012 — affecting 8 percent of all students in the fast-growing sector.

If the rules went into effect now, 55 percent of for-profit schools would be required to disclose unflattering loan data in their promotional materials, making for a strong consumer protection tool, the agency said.

To give schools time to improve and to target “the bottom of the barrel,” Duncan said the administration would cap the number of programs it would strip of aid eligibility at 5 percent in fall 2012, when that penalty would first be assessed.

The Career College Association, the for-profit college sector’s main lobbying group, said establishing a ratio between student debt and anticipated graduate earnings is unwise, unnecessary and unproven.

“Amounts borrowed today do not indicate what you will be able to repay in five years, ten years or over a working lifetime,” the association’s president, Harris Miller, said in a statement.

Others who were hoping for tougher rules were disappointed, as well.

Pauline Abernathy, vice president of the Institute for College Access & Success, said while the proposal is significant and has teeth, programs could continue to profit from federal aid when more than half their students can’t afford to pay down the principal on their loans.

“It is not as strong as it should be to protect students and taxpayers from getting ripped off by career education programs that over-promise and under-deliver,” she said.

Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee criticized the proposal, saying the government could in effect “institute price controls on certificate and degree programs at thousands of institutions of higher education.” Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa, a Democrat who is holding oversight hearings on for-profit colleges, said at first glance, “the regulation appears to set a low bar.”

The proposed rules will be published Monday in the Federal Register and a 45-day public comment period will follow. The final rules are scheduled to be announced in November and would take effect next year, although enforcement action that would strip schools of aid eligibility would not begin until the 2012-2013 school year.

Now THAT will get me called a socialist, because the wealthy want to bring back the days when only THEIR children had access to the advantage of higher education, and the rest of us were kept safely uneducated, so as not to provide any competition to their own offspring…most of whom were already incompetent & unable to survive without family wealth, anyway. 5 users liked this comment Please sign in to rate this comment up. I had a friend that attended one of those universities for an IT Degree. They told him that other universities were useless because it focus too much on History, English and all these other “useless” subjects that were not necessarily related to his future field of work. They told him his class will be intensely in IT knowledge for 36 months. He went to the college and guess what…in month 30, the university shut down and closed it’s doors. All the students lost the funds and time they put into that “would be” degree. The worse thing was that none of the credits from the school were transferable to any other university. The student got stuck with the loans and other losses. What was the school’s price tag for this IT degree? $42,000. 1 users liked this comment Please sign in to rate this comment up. The affected intitutions will be forced to reject students from low income families or those with bad credit. With the future of the economy being uncontrollable as well as the students, they are likely to accept only those or those whose parents already have the means to pay back a loan. I’m sure they would want to do that anyway and what better excuse than to make it a law.

It would push the poor to the non-profit and community colleges the same way Doc-in-the-Boxes push people without insurance to the emergency room. The people who can pay are put in one group while those who can’t are put in another. Across the industry/market, risk and it’s costs will become the burdon of those who can’t say no. While the for-profit companies no longer have to legally share that risk. 6 users liked this comment Please sign in to rate this comment up.
The government decides whether or not to invest taxpayer money based on… purely market forces. If a school puts out a quality product (education that provides the student with the skills needed to thrive in the employment marketplace), then the students will be employable and there will be few defaults. If a school puts out a crappy product (education that doesn’t provide needed skills) then the employment marketplace will reflect this, and graduates of that school will be more likely to default on their loans. The government is observing this free market at work and following its dictates, not dictating to the market. They cut off the schools that are failing to deliver what the students are paying for.

As a bonus, by cutting off schools with high default rates, they SAVE TAXPAYER MONEY. I, for one, approve of that.

Yes, I used to work in vocational education. 10 users liked this comment Please sign in to rate this comment up. They prey upon the uneducated and the poor, they make false promises to them and encourage them to take out hefty loans because, of course, they’ll be employed as a dental assistant or a correctional officer by the time they’re done and they’ll be able to pay off whatever they borrow.
The young, gullible person believes them, ruins their credit and ends up saddled with hefty loans which the government WILL pursue- trust me. They’ll have garnished wages and liens on their property for years to come and the school turns a profit. What does the student get? An education that is pretty much useless and they’ll never use. Trust me, I’ve met PLENTY of these graduates and they know only the barest minimum of what they need to know.
But those schools DISCOURAGE students from attending more affordable schools- telling them that those schools are too slow and that they’ll be learning useless information.
Its a terrible racket.
If you’re going to blame these young, vulnerable (and hopeful) students, you might as well blame the lonely old people who fall prey to deceitful tactics from unscrupulous telemarketers and end up in debt too- because they’re lonely and they don’t understand what’s going on.
Where is the compassion? 2 users liked this comment Please sign in to rate this comment up.
WASHINGTON – The D.C. Public Schools are firing 241 teachers and warning more than 700 other employees that they could be fired in the next year if their performance doesn’t improve.

The firings announced Friday total 302 school system employees, including the 241 teachers. They come largely as a result of the first year of a new teacher evaluation system, though 76 teachers were fired for problems with their licenses.

The evaluation is based largely on five classroom observations of teachers and their students’ standardized test scores. Those found “ineffective” on a four-tier system were fired.

Washington Teachers’ Union President George Parker says the union will challenge the firings for performance.

I think this article is really coming down to how a school district is trying to dismiss ineffective teachers. No, this evaluation tool isn’t solely based on test scores but also FIVE teacher evaluations. That’s a lot of observations for one year. I do think that districts need to be empowered to fire teachers that are not motivated and doing their job! What is the incentive to do an outstanding job once you reach tenure if you’re no longer inspired for yourself? As a teacher, I see this happen yearly. Newer untenured teachers get fired when the budget cuts come and the most comfortable, unwilling to collaborate or change teachers are left to do a job they are either unwilling or incapable of doing.

If politicians need to do anything, they should be thinking about how to recruit the best and brightest that have teaching skills. Believe me, just because someone is a rocket scientist, doesn’t mean they can have the skills and passion needed for the classroom. The whole structure of public schools needs to change, including students being tossed into grade levels based on their age, report cards, college prep, everything! (As a side note, think about how much money family’s waste on an oftentimes-useless college education- you’re paying for your kid to go off and have a grand old party time and MAYBE choose a career that isn’t even marketable). There isn’t even a glimpse of the technology needed in most public schools to prepare students to compete in a global economy. Most principals and other administrators have not been trained to truly LEAD a staff…the list goes on and on.

Americanski made an excellent case for our culture being the biggest problem in schools today and I totally agree. However, I’m not willing to say that poor parenting is an excuse to keep teachers around that are unwilling to raise the bar and try new things. Districts need to be empowered to let teachers go when the writing is on the wall.

If Obama or other politicians need to do anything, they should be thinking about how to recruit the best and brightest that have teaching skills. Many times the parents are worse then the kids. I am a nurse and when I was working in a private hospital, on a children’s ward we had a girl there. She was About 14. She was a nice kid, her mother was nuts . After a few days the kids was released and as they were leaving the mother told the kid, in a voice loud enough for me to hear as they passed me at the nusing station, “I hope you told all these Mother F- ers off.” real nice. 1 users liked this comment Please sign in to rate this comment up.
our culture, our government and our corporations teach children to worship leisure, entertainment, commercialism, material, and crap instead of hard work. television and magazines teach children to glorify and worship arrogant, privileged, and morally challenged athletes (bryant, mcgwire, canseco, woods – the list of names is massive) and do-nothing, accomplish-nothing “celebrities” like the kardashians (god, they are so gross looking) and talentless “rock stars” and hiphoppers.

where are all the widely and persistently distributed media messages glorifying academic success, college degrees, getting homework done, scientists, mathemeticians, writers, and poets? answer: america worships money and money makers. quit putting down teachers you idiots and get home from work and make your children do their homework. my kids had no tv, phone, games, or sports until their homework was done. teachers are not the problem; parents are. turn off the tv, put away the electronics and teach your children to get their @#$% homework done. america needs to send parents to classes to learn how to raise hardworking, polite, responsible children.

there is a war going on against all public education in the usa. why? if the lower socio-economic end of our population is educated, members of that group will have stronger critical thinking skills and will challenge the status quo, and threaten the wealth and power of the corporate leaders and governing elite. the purpose of the rich and powerful is to maintain their status, and public education is in the way. that is why teachers and public schools are being blamed: they create people who can think and not fall for all the bul$#&% dished out in tv commercials and in magazines.

quit blaming the teachers you losers. once you start advocating for real fixes to public education, then you might deserve to be taken seriously. instead of attacking teachers, try promoting true solutions like year-round school, smaller class sizes, and after-school homework programs. if teachers were paid based on the value to society of an educated public, then maybe the best people would think it’s worth it to become a teacher. teachers deserve to be paid as highly as lawyers, accountants, engineers, rock stars, athletes, and scummy corporate executives and politicians. the problem in this country is that our society pays the most money to those who make money for someone else. that’s why teachers don’t get paid enough and that’s what keeps the best teachers from entering the profession.

so, to all of you punks who complain about teachers and their unions, if you have the ability to read all this, and the attention span to finish it, don’t forget to thank all the lame-@$$ teachers who taught you how to read and whom you trash. and if you are a product of private schools (which i attended), you do not even have the standing to trash public school teachers, so sthu. 5 users liked this comment Please sign in to rate this comment up. SPORTS and more SPORTS. Especially @#$% football. Knew a kid who went to a big college five years on a football
scolarship. He kept changing his major keep up his grades or whatever the reason and after his five years was up he had to get a job and attend school a year or more at night and on weekends to get his diploma. It wasn’t easy for him trying to work six and seven nights a week and go to school sometimes 12 hours on Saturday and Sunday. Don’t think high schools and college don’t fix grades or let someone take makeup test for athletes. That has been going on for years and will continue as long as there is sports. No I am not one, but I know how hard they work and understand what they are faced with.

Why can’t people see that most “kids” have little interest in school and get even less support at home. It is like taking teh horse to water, Well, teachers are teachers and you CAN’T make these kids understand that it is their responsibility to take an interest and try to learn.

Correct some issues at home and you will see improved education. Let teachers do their job and stop expecting then to perform miracles. They have to deal with kids that don’t want to be there and refuse to participate, and don’t forget all the other B S that our “EDUCATION LEADERS” come up with and expect the teachers to deal with. 2 users liked this comment Please sign in to rate this comment up. What it’s basically about is how the way the students of today are taught using old-school techniques that don’t help in today’s working world. It also explains how America is not the “big contributor” to higher education. It’s overall a fully explained protest to reform the American school system, by bringing in more ideas to teach the students so that they’ll be ready for the work force after high school, which most of them aren’t. It also give examples of state standardized test questions, as well as opinions from educators, students, employers, ect. 4 users liked this comment Please sign in to rate this comment up. The last thing I want is the dreaded “pink slip”.

Today, many teachers teach right out of the book, & the students barely know a thing. The state standardized tests don’t really mean a thing, except raise the school’s API score, almost like a competition amongt the other districts. In my opinion, teacher evaluations are a good thing, because they can tell who’s a good teacher, & who isn’t. They, the teachers, should be evaluated for not only having the students meet district & state requirements, but also on student participation, grading, disipline, & other areas to help them.
